Hundreds of Indiana Jones fans love Coyle’s “Outdoorsman” boots for their movie clone good looks and affordable price, but all except the smallest sizes have been sold out for more than a year now. Fans have grown tired of being called “Shoeless Jones” and other disparaging epithets. Needless to say, there is great excitement surrounding Coyle’s resupply of the “Outdoorsman” boots.
It isn’t easy finding a reputable, well equipped manufacturer to make the small number of shoes required for such a specialized market, but I managed to find one (the manufacturer of our original “Outdoorsman” boot proved to be too unreliable). Fans can be picky, and so can shoe aficionados, so this time, I wanted a boot that exceeded all expectations. I narrowed the search down to two companies who could provide a boot with the features I wanted. Finally, I made a decision based on the company that was easiest to communicate with, an important consideration when dealing with people for whom English is a second language (which I admire a great deal).
But there was a complication. That company’s quote was also the more expensive. I wrestled with that one for a long time. I am a cheap guy. I buy cheap shoes. I’m not a “shoe guy”. I live in sneakers. I go shoe shopping and head straight for the cheap end of the aisle. I was afraid that the price tag on these boots would put them out of range for too many fans.
After months of deliberation, I went shoe shopping. I was amazed at the high price of boots, even mass-market brands. I decided that the price I would have to charge was not out of line for the quality, features, and style of these shoes, especially considering that they are made just for Indiana Jones fans. So I placed the order.
